President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev will head an official Bulgarian delegation, which will be received by Pope Francis and then pay respect to the sacred for the Bulgarian citizens places in Rome on the occasion of May 24 – the Bulgarian Education and Culture and Slavonic Literature Day, the press centre of the President’s Office announced.
The two-day visit of the Bulgarian delegation will take place on May 16-17.
This year the visit is dedicated to the 1,150th anniversary since the negotiations between Boris I of Bulgaria (852-889) and Pope Nicholas I, which set the start of the diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and the Vatican, as well as to the 1,100th anniversary since the death of Clement of Ohrid.
During the official visit President Plevneliev will also meet with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
