Bulgaria President Hosts 2015 Largest Corporate Donor Awards (ROUNDUP)
Friday, 20 November 2015
President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev hosted Thursday the ceremony on the presentation of the tenth edition of the Largest Corporate Donor Awards for 2015, FOCUS News Agency reported.
The competition aims at granting recognition to the companies in the country that invest in significant social causes in a sustainable and transparent manner.
The awards are presented in 9 categories and the President is expected to present the award in the Best Donor’s Programme of Small or Medium Enterprise category.
The awards are handed out in 4 more countries in Central and Eastern Europe – Poland, Russia, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
Rosen Plevneliev presented the award in the Best Donor’s Programme of Small or Medium Enterprise category to the Bulgarian branch of Samsung Electronics for the Trends of Tomorrow programme.
President Plevneliev said in his speech donating should not be a one-off event or one-off participation in a campaign but solidarity and readiness for support should be expressed over each disadvantaged human being.
“Giving is a desire for a change to the environment through good, through support for socially significant causes,” Rosen Plevneliev added.
“According to the World Giving Index 2015, the number of people in Bulgaria who have made donations in the past year has increased nearly twice. 38% of Bulgarians have taken part in donation initiatives in 2015. Their number stood at 27% in 2014,” Plevneliev went on to say.
“Donations from foundations and physical persons have increased. This is a very positive trend and we take pride in that but there are huge challenges,” he commented.
