According to Eurostat findings on the debt and deficit of EU states at the end of 2010, Bulgaria has the second lowest debt in the Union.
The country's indebtedness accounts for 16.2% of its GDP. Estonia is the only country with a lower debt index-6.6%.
The average EU debt is 80% of the GDP. In countries like Italy and Greece the debt exceeds 100%.
In 2010 Bulgaria's budget deficit dropped from 4.7% to 3.2%, which was the sixth best result in the Bloc. The EU average deficit is 6.4%, with Estonia having registered a slight surplus and Sweden having reached a balanced budget. /Source: BNR/
