Bulgaria's regional development ministry said it awarded Greek engineering consulting consortium G.Karavokiris-Edafos a 1.4 million euro ($1.8 million) contract for the design of the Luda Yana dam in southern Bulgaria.
The contract value includes value added tax.
The Greek tie-in will carry out the site exploration, design of the dam, preparation of the papers for the tender procedure and will supervise the construction. Work under the contract has to be completed within 38 months, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday. Construction works are planned to kick off next year.
Luda Yana dam will supply water to over 45,000 residents in Panagyurishte region. The construction of the facility, which will contain 19.94 million cubic metres of water, will be financed from the proceeds of a World Bank loan, the ministry said in a separate statement issued earlier this month.
