Bulgaria has launched a 1.9 million euro ($2.4 million) project for the rehabilitation of the road infrastructure, uniting the traffic from the cities of Smolyan and Kardzhali to Greece, the municipality of Zlatograd said.
The first phase of the project includes rehabilitation of the existing road infrastructure in the town centre of Zlatograd and construction of a parking lot and two bridges, part of the infrastructure, connecting Bulgaria with neighbouring Greece, the municipality said in a statement posted on its website.
The European Union finances the project with 1.6 million euro from its European Regional Development Fund. The state budgets of Bulgaria and Greece co-fund the project with 283,000 euro.
