Bulgaria, Greece Sign Guidelines for Police Cooperation in Border Regions

Bulgaria's Interior Ministry Chief Commissioner Kalin Georgiev and his Greek counterpart Eleftherios Ikonomou signed on Tuesday guidelines for bilateral cooperation of police teams in the border regions.

The countries also signed guidelines for the operation of Bulgarian-Greek joint police patrols on the territory of the ski resort of Bansko, in southwestern Bulgaria, Bulgaria's interior ministry said in a statement.

The joint police patrols started work on December 13 and will continue their operations till March 26.

During Ikonomou's visit officials of the two countries discussed possibilities for tighter bilateral cooperation in the fight against organised and economic crime, as well as new forms of interaction with regards to Bulgaria's upcoming Schengen accession.
