Bulgaria expects to harvest about 3.8-3.9 million tonnes of wheat this year, the agriculture ministry said.
This amount would allow the country to export part of its wheat harvest as it needs 1.5 million tonnes to cover its domestic needs, the ministry said in a statement quoting agriculture minister Miroslav Naidenov on Tuesday.
Last year Bulgaria harvested 4.25 million tonnes of wheat, compared to 4.09 million tonnes put in silos in 2010. The average yield in 2011 was 4.06 tonnes per hectare, up from the 3.6 tonnes per hectare harvested a year earlier.
