Bulgaria Expects Over 1.0 Million Tourist Arrivals from Romania in 2012

Bulgaria's economy ministry said it expects tourist arrivals from Romania this year to exceed one million.

Early holiday bookings from Romania show 6.0% growth compared to the same period last year, the ministry said in a statement quoting deputy economy minister Ivo Marinov as saying during a tourist forum in Bucharest.

Most foreign tourists to Bulgaria come from Romania. Last year, Romanian tourist arrivals in Bulgaria increased by 4.6% to 960,365, the ministry said on Friday.

In 2012, Bulgaria expects 6.0% to 8.0% growth in foreign tourist arrivals as visitors from Russia alone are seen jumping 20%.

Tourism generates 15% of Bulgaria's gross domestic product, according to economy ministry data.
