Bulgaria Energy Watchdog to Rule on New Electricity Prices on Friday (ROUNDUP)
Wednesday, 29 July 2015
Bulgaria’s Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) will officially rule on the electricity prices for the next regulatory period, which starts as of August 1, at a sitting on Friday, July 31.
There is no legal ground to postpone the decision making on the electricity price for the new regulatory period again. This is what Chairperson of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) Ivan Ivanov said speaking with journalists after the open sitting of the commission over the request of the business to postpone the price decision until the problems in Bulgaria’s energy sector are solved.
“This is due to the supplement to the Energy Act, which was published in Issue 48 of the State Gazette this year. It says that the price regulation period, which ends up on June 30, may be extended with one month only,” he explained.
“On July 31 we will announce our decision on the electricity prices for the new regulatory period, which starts on August 1,” Mr Ivanov explained.
Asked whether it was possible for the current electricity prices to remain unchanged, Mr Ivanov said that new prices would be set.
“There have been certain changes over the past months because certain actions were taken and on July 31 when we announce our price decision we will also announce details about the changes and the effects they brought,” Ivan Ivanov said further.
