Bulgaria Does Not Recognize Crimea Referendum, National Security Consultative Council Decides

Bulgaria does not recognise the results of the recent referendum in Ukraine's Crimea region, the Consultative Council on National Security with president Rosen Plevneliev decided.

"The Republic of Bulgaria supports the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Ukraine," the Council decided, as quoted by the president's press office. "The March 16 referendum on te autonomous republic of Crimea is in breach of international law and the Constitution of Ukraine, and Bulgaria does not recognise its results," it added.

Plevneliev convened the council for an extraordinary meeting on Monday to discuss the crisis in Ukraine and the risks it holds for Bulgaria.
