Bulgaria cancels 746 mln euro armoured vehicles tender

Bulgaria's defence ministry said on Tuesday it cancelled the 1.46 billion levs ($875 million/746 million euro) tender for the purchase of 150 armoured vehicles as the submitted offers significantly exceed the project's financial framework.

Talks with the two companies which reached the final phase of the tender - Finland's Patria and US-based General Dynamics, have established that a decrease in the originally proposed prices is impossible unless the technical requirements of the tender are changed significantly, the defence ministry said in a statement.

Such a change, however, is impossible as it would discriminate against other participants in the procedure which have already been disqualified on the basis of the current requirements, the defence ministry noted.

It also said that defence minister Krasimir Karakachanov tasked state-owned defence company Terem Holding with exploring the options for joint manufacturing of armoured vehicles in Bulgaria, utilising the existing capacities of the country's defence industry.
