At Least 74 People Lost their Lives in Wildfires in Eastern Attica

The number of dead in the devastating fires in Attica was revised upward to 74 on Tuesday afternoon, while the search for more victims continues in Mati on Attica's eastern coast.
According to the latest announcement by the fire brigade press spokesperson Stavroula Mallidi, the number of dead has risen to 74 and the number of injured to 164 adults and 23 children.
Among the victims are many young children.
The government has implemented the human loss management plan and all victims are being transferred to the morgue in Goudi to identify them.
All the dead have so far been found in the area between Rafina and Nea Makri, especially in Mati and Kokkino Limanaki, where they were trapped by the flames in homes and cars or drowned in their attempt to escape from the sea.
According to information, the injured have risen to 156, of which 11 are intubated in hospitals.
