Agriculture EU Commissioner Dacian Ciolos visits Bulgaria

Bulgaria hopes that the European Council would reach a consensus for the earlier levelling of European direct subsidies for Bulgarian farmers as soon as 2014 and not as of 2016 as expected, said Prime Minister Boyko Borisov at a press conference in Sofia on the occasion of the visit to Bulgaria of European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos. "We want that poorer newly admitted EU member-states receive higher subsidies for our producers, Borisov said. If the levelling of direct payments is made in 2014 this country would receive EUR 226 million." The EU Commissioner met also with Minister of Agriculture and Foods Miroslav Naidenov who voiced his opinion for creating a measure for helping tobacco producers in Bulgaria under the Programme for Rural Development.
