Achieving and exceeding the primary surplus target will allow for spending on economic growth and social issues, Environment and Energy Minister Panos Skourletis told Athens News Agency in an interview on Sunday.
“Since we are exceeding the targets in relation to the level of the primary surplus, we can allocate the surplus to growth and to social issues,” the minister was quoted as saying, adding that the government will “at no point need to activate the fiscal [contingency] mechanism.”
