1.5 Per Cent of GDP to Be Invested in Science, Technology by 2020 - National Strategy

Investments in science and technology are supposed to increase to 1.5 per cent of GDP by 2020 according to the National Strategy for Development of Scientific Research 2020, which Parliament adopted on Thursday.

The Strategy has been proposed by the Council of Ministers. The idea is to help Bulgarian science emerge as a factor of innovation-based economic development. The other highlights of the Strategy include identifying biotechnologies, energy, transport, information technologies and cultural heritage as priority areas of science, creating attractive conditions for a research career and qualification, a sustainable link between education, science and business, as well as an effective system for evaluation of scientific research.
