ND's Tasos Gaitanis says party must continue to be a 'reference point' for society
09 09 2019The New Democracy party must continue to be a reference point for society, the party's new spokesman Tasos Gaitanis said in an interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) released on Sunday.
"It must continue to be a place of dialogue but also a party that is open to everyone," Gaitanis said, adding that the party must listen to society and hear its needs but also explain the government's actions to the citizens.
He said the government had "raised all the obstacles" to the investment at Hellinikon and that the investor would soon begin work there.
According to Gaitanis, the government took over a "chaotic situation" with respect to the migration and refugee crisis, where "the country has been transformed into a giant hotspot for migrants and trafficking networks".
On university asylum laws, he forecast that the student community was now "mature" and that there would not be any reactions to the measure, since it would improve universities.
He also underlined the emphasis on law and order, noting that ND considers security a condition for democracy, saying that more police started patrolling from the first days of the new government and a process for the hiring of 1,500 new police officers was underway.
