Bulgaria's revenue agency to appeal 2.6 mln euro fine for personal data leakage
30 08 2019Bulgaria's National Revenue Agency (NRA) said on Thursday that it will challenge the 5.1 million levs fine imposed by the country's personal data watchdog over a massive leakage of personal data. The unauthorised access to the agency's database, the leakage of personal data, as well as its subsequent publication are a result of a crime committed despite the technical and organisational measures taken by the agency in order to prevent a possible breach in the security of its systems, the revenue agency said in a statement published on its website. The revenue agency is also considering taking legal actions against the individuals responsible for the hacker attack against its servers. In this way the financial penalty can be directed to the perpetrators, the agency said. In July the national revenue agency said it has detected unauthorised access to about 3% of its database in an investigation of a hacker attack that led to the leakage of personal data of millions of Bulgarian and foreign citizens and companies, including personal ID numbers and income figures.
