Bulgaria's Plovdiv, Yambol water utilities sign 2 deals for EU-backed projects
02 09 2019The water utilities serving the Bulgarian cities of Plovdiv and Yambol have signed two deals with the environment ministry for the construction of water supply and sewerage infrastructure, the ministry said. The project in Plovdiv region benefits from 97.4 million levs ($55 million/50 million euro), provided by the EU under operational programme Environment 2014-2020, while EU's funding in Yambol's water infrastructure project amounts to 23.2 million levs, the ministry said in a statement earlier this week.The total value of the investment in the project in Plovdiv region is 137 million levs. The investment in the project in Yambol region totals 31.2 million levs.The project in Plovdiv region envisages the rehabilitation and construction works on 42 km of water network at several locations in the region. After successful completion of the project, over 430,000 inhabitants are expected to have improved access to water supply. Works in Yambol region will include construction of a 6.5 km of water mains connecting pumping stations Kabile and Ormana, the reconstruction of existing 11 km of water mains as well as extension of the water supply and sewerage piping in Yambol and the town of Elhovo. The successful completion of the project will result in improved water supply for 73,283 inhabitants.The term for completion of both projects is 49 months.
