Conference "IT services, high technology and innovation - bilateral cooperation Prospects"
16 12 2014The Conference "IT services, high technology and innovation - bilateral cooperation Prospects" was organized by the Office for Economic & Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of Greece to Bulgaria in cooperation with the Hellenic Business Council in Bulgaria (HBCB) and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) and aimed to promote bilateral cooperation in information services, high technology and innovation.
In his opening speech, Mr. Dimosthenis Stoidis, Ambassador of Greece to Bulgaria, highlighted the dynamics of innovation services in Greece and the excellent training and experience of qualified scientific personnel in the country.
Mr. Stamatis Theodoropoulos, Chairman of HBCB addressed the audience, referring to the importance and the benefits of cooperation of both business and institutions, associations of companies they represent and the possibilities for further joint activities and initiatives.
Mr. Valery Borissov, Deputy Minister of Transport, Communications, Information Technology and Communications of Bulgaria emphasized that information technology (IT) is one of the key priority areas between branches of Bulgarian economy.
Address was also made by Mr. Giannis Patsiavos – Coordinator of the Network of International Cooperation of the Federation.
The event continued with the speeches of the main speakers. Mr. Philip Moutafis, member of the Board of Bulgarian Software Companies Association (BASSCOM), analyzed the dynamics of the software industry / IT in Bulgaria. According to Mr. Moutafis, this business sector is growing rapidly as well, and in 2005 accounted for 0.5% of b / GDP, its share has more than tripled, reaching 2%. This big push is mainly due to the individual business software industry. It is also noted that members of BASSCOM now amount to over 600. Mr. Theodoros Karounos, Chairman of the Board of the Greek Society of Free Software/Open Source Software (STP / OSS), referred to the activity of the collective body. Special reference was made of the importance of public digital repositories / Open Access repositories. Subsequently, Mr. Dimitar Platnikov, expert of the Managing Authority of the Operational Programme "Competitiveness", explained the funding possibilities for companies of innovation sectors. According to Mr. Platnikov, such financing possibilities arise both through the priority axis 1.1. OP (budget € 295 million.) and through the axle 2.2 (budget € 583 million.). It should here be noted that the first calls for interest under this OP for the new programming period (2014 - 2020) will be published in early 2015.
The workshop was closed by short presentations of companies with Greek share operating in Bulgaria from the sectors of innovation and high technologies. It was followed by business meetings of the members of the Greek delegation with around 20 Bulgarian companies took part. The participating Greek companies expressed their satisfaction with both the contacts made and with the idea of conducting the whole event and its implementation.
