European Commission unveils strategy to prepare economy for the next decade
The European Commission launched on March 3 2010 the Europe 2020 Strategy to go out of the crisis and prepare EU economy for the next decade. The Commission said in a media statement that the strategy identifies three key drivers for growth, to be implemented through concrete actions at EU and national levels: smart growth (fostering knowledge, innovation, education and digital society), sustainable growth (making our production more resource efficient while boosting our competitiveness) and inclusive growth (raising participation in the labour market, the acquisition of skills and the fight against poverty).
Bulgaria Agriculture Minister to visit flooded areas
Bulgaria's Agriculture Minister Miroslav Naidenov will visit flooded areas near the towns of Elhovo and Bolyarovo in Yambol region, southeastern Bulgaria, on March 5, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on March 3. Naidenov will meet with farmers from the region to discuss how the ministry will assess damages caused by flooding and compensation for local producers.
In January 2010, compared with December 2009, the volume of retail trade decreased by 0.3 per cent in both the euro zone and across the 27 member states of the European Union, according to a flash estimate by the EU's statistics office Eurostat.
The Greek government`s announcement of new supplementary measures was a critical turn in the history of the countrys fiscal and economic developments, EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn said on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters in Brussels, the EU Commissioner said what is most important now is the full and rapid implementation of the measures.
