On February 3rd, 2010 in the HBCB Executive Office in Sofia took place a meeting of the Council`s new members. Bulgaria's Georgieva Confirmed as New EU Humanitarian Aid Commissioner
The Development Committee of the EP has confirmed Bulgaria's Designate Kristalina Georgieva as the new EU Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid. After her spectacular performance during the three-hour hearing at the EP on Wednesday, Georgieva was confirmed unanimously by the Development Committee.
EC Threatens to Freeze Rural Area Funding for Bulgaria
Bulgarian authorities failed to fully adhere to European legislation and Bulgaria can be excluded from financing from the EU Fund for the Development of Rural Areas. The warning was issued by the European Commission, and announced by Bulgaria's Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Naydenov.
Greek President Karolos Papoulias Wins Second Term
Greek President Karolos Papoulias has been re-elected for a second term, as both main parties backed him for the sake of political stability. Papoulias won 266 votes in the 300-seat parliament, with support from both ruling socialists and opposition conservatives.
